To connect with our community and make a positive impact by serving great food, fantastic coffee, forming friendships, providing employment opportunities, and giving back to those in need.
The idea for The Olive Branch began when Bryan and Tamie Wallake begin discussing what they should do with this new building they were putting up next to their daycare center. Their original idea was to rent it out as office space, but then owner Bryan Wallake got the idea of opening up a pizza shop. When he mentioned this idea to Tamie, she immediately begin to envision a beautiful coffee shop to go along with his pizza idea. What really clinched it for her was when she realized how this Pizza/Coffee shop idea could help their 5013c nonprofit organization which assists people coming out of homelessness and drug addiction.
They threw out a post on facebook asking their friends for ideas on names and one of their friends suggested “The Olive Branch”. As Tamie researched the meaning behind the name, and saw that The Olive Branch signifies peace and reconciliation, she immediately knew that this was the name they were looking for. Bryan began researching different types of pizza and came across the brick oven pizza which cooks in just a few minutes and gives the pizza a unique wood fire flavor. Soon after, they traveled to Good Fellas Pizza in Staton Island, NY to attend pizza school. Good Fellas has earned numerous awards including many “World’s Best Pizza” awards and they teach their students how to make their dough and their sauce from scratch using high quality, fresh ingredients.
After returning home, not being satisfied with just the best pizza, they started asking around to see what the number one coffee in Columbus was and that lead them to One Line Coffee. One Line Coffee’s philosophy is “better coffee means flavor and quality, sustainability, and traceability. It means doing everything we can to ensure farmers and workers are treated well, and earn a livable wage. It means telling the stories of our coffees, connecting you to our farmers and it means matching the passion of our farmers with our own passion for roasting.” Bryan and Tamie wholeheartedly agree with this philosophy and love the high quality, freshly roasted coffee that they provide so the decision was easy. The only thing left to do was build the 5,000 square foot restaurant which opened in April, 2017!
The heartbeat behind The Olive Branch is giving people a second chance, whether it’s through employment or just a helping hand. A mistake made in your past does not have to dictate your future. A minimum of 10% of all profit from The Olive Branch will be given back to help people in our community struggling with addiction, homelessness or just unforeseen circumstances. Bryan and Tamie Wallake have been in the real estate business for over 20 years and have helped many people with housing over the years. The Olive Branch will enable them to continue that effort as well as provide funding for counseling, job training and other necessary resources to help people get on their feet and learn to be self sufficient. If you have a heart for this and have time, talent or resources that you would like to invest in helping us help others, please let us know!
